Chef-d’œuvre de Claudio Monteverdi, Le Retour d’Ulysse dans sa patrie marque l’une des grandes naissances de l’opéra vénitien au XVIIe siècle.

Inspirée de l’Odyssée, l’œuvre raconte le retour du héros à Ithaque après vingt années d’absence. Tandis que Pénélope demeure fidèle malgré les prétendants qui convoitent son trône, Ulysse revient incognito, contraint de reconquérir son identité, sa famille et son royaume.
Pour cette nouvelle production de l’Opéra de Massy, la chorégraphe en résidence Anne Nguyen propose une lecture contemporaine du mythe. Ulysse y apparaît comme un homme marqué par la guerre et l’exil, presque un migrant revenu de tout, guidé par des forces intérieures incarnées par des danseurs urbains. Dans cet univers mêlant chant, danse et théâtre, les passions humaines et les jeux du destin se confrontent. Dans la fosse, les musiciens d’Opera Fuoco sont dirigés par David Stern. Ensemble, ils redonnent toute sa force dramatique à ce récit intemporel sur l’exil, le pouvoir et la quête de soi.
