Voici un concert éclatant, aux styles variés et aux émotions démultipliées.
Le Concerto pour deux pianos (1932) de Francis Poulenc est, selon les dires du compositeur qui aimait à l’interpréter lui-même avec son ami d’enfance Jacques Février : « gai et direct ». C’est la légèreté qui est ici de mise et qui vise à atteindre non pas la démonstration écrasante de virtuosité mais le registre plus élevé de la poésie. Les deux solistes dialoguent avec aisance et clarté, tissant un lien avec l’orchestre discret, comme témoin de cette conversation. La Quatrième Symphonie (1874-1888) d’Anton Bruckner est aux antipodes : l’orchestre y est dense et ambitieux, comme une gigantesque cathédrale de sons destinée à créer une impression de grandeur et de solennité proche des musiques pour orgue, l’instrument du compositeur. La pièce d’ouverture fait quant à elle référence au thème de la fête : elle est écrite par le jeune compositeur finlandais Joel Järventausta.
